Eligibility
TRMF Award Guidelines
All scholarships and awards, with the exception of Provincial and National recommendations, are available only to performers meeting the Twin Rivers “in-district” designation.
To qualify for awards
The entrant must be studying with a teacher who lives in district for a
minimum of 4 months prior to entry deadline
OR
The entrant must reside in district. This includes entrants or teachers living
in Divisions 5, 6, and 7 in the RM of Corman Park. This would include the towns
of Langham, Dalmeny, Martensville, Warman and Osler
OR
An entrant residing outside of the Twin Rivers district if they are furthering
their education elsewhere with a home address in the above mention district
All awards, with the exception of the Senior Performing Arts Award and the Prestige Award are available only to competitors who are 17 years of age or under as of December 31 of the year preceding the current festival year.
Professionals and TRMF committee members are not eligible for awards.
All awards and scholarships are given out to deserving competitors at the discretion of the adjudicators. To qualify for an award, participants must compete in at least two classes in the same discipline on the same instrument. Choirs are only required to perform a minimum of 2 selections. These 2 selections may be entered in the same class.
Scholarship age designations may be adjusted to reflect the number of entries in any age category.
Twin Rivers Musical Distinction Awards
The TRMF Rose Bowl and $150 scholarship may be awarded to one Outstanding Musician from each of the following 2 disciplines: Senior Piano, Vocal. In order to maintain a high standard of excellence, the Musical Distinction awards will only be given out if the competitor meets the following requirements:
1. Competitor must be performing at a minimum Grade 8 level.
2. Competitor must have placed first or second in a minimum of two solo classes in the stated discipline (not including own compositions, improvisation, or popular music) with the highest two marks averaging 87% or higher.
3. To consider overall musicianship the adjudicator may take into consideration other performances by the competitor such as duets, own compositions, improvisation, and popular music, even though they cannot be considered for the marks average.
4. Other considerations could be level of difficulty and number of entries.
Awards will be reviewed annually.
Scholarship and Award Distribution Guidelines
Piano – Junior
The following awards are given to the competitor in the category with the highest mark:

*Arrangements of baroque, classical or Canadian pieces are not appropriate for designated Baroque, Classical or Canadian classes and will not be considered for the awards attached to those classes.
Helga Lutke I Love a Piano Award is to be given to a junior piano student who shows interest and enjoyment of music, not necessarily based on the highest mark. It is to be given to a competitor who hasn’t received another award.
Centennial Legacy Scholarship is to be given to a deserving outstanding competitor.
Outstanding Musicianship, Open Scholarship and Adjudicator’s Choice
These awards are more subjective but should be based on marks, body of work, level of
difficulty and overall performance.
Outstanding Junior Piano Performer is given to a junior competitor who displays exceptional skill and artistry in their discipline. This is a stand-alone award and receipt of other awards does not disqualify a performer from this one. Competitors must have placed first or second in a minimum of two solo classes (not including own compositions, improvisation or popular music) with the highest two marks averaging 87% or higher. To consider overall musicianship
the adjudicator may take into consideration other performances by the competitor such as duets, own compositions, improvisation and popular music, even though they cannot be considered for marks average. Other considerations could be level of difficulty and number of entries.

Outstanding Musicianship, Open Scholarship and Adjudicator’s Choice
These awards are more subjective but should be based on marks, body of work, level of
difficulty and overall performance.
Berquist Musical Distinction – See above for musical distinction award qualifications.
Senior Performing Arts Award is a plaque awarded to one outstanding performer in each discipline, age 29 years and up.
